Atlanta Public High School Golf Team Wins State Championship

The high school golf team at the Drew Charter School in Atlanta made history when it won the state championship in May 2019. The team is the only Atlanta Public Schools team that has ever won the state title in golf. Drew Charter’s golf team is also the only winning team that is entirely made up of African Americans. The success of the school’s program and the kids has captured the attention of people across the golf world, including Harold Varner III. Harold Varner III was the winner of the 2019 Calvin Peete award on Oct. 13, 2019.

Drew Charter School’s golf program

high school golf wins tournamentThe Drew Charter School is a public school in Atlanta. While the school does not have a football team, it has a terrific golf program. The school rallies around its golf team like other schools rally around their football teams. The Drew Charter School opened in 2000, and its golf team started 15 years ago. The team practices at the Charlie Yates Golf Course, which is located near to the school. The golf program says that it dreams of having its own golf facility for future generations of golfers at the school.

All of the members of the golf team participate in the First Tee program. This program teaches young golfers both the rules and etiquette of golf and core values. The First Tee program also includes financial literacy and tax classes to help the participants to learn how to prepare for life outside of golf. The team has also been helped by the East Lake Foundation.

The help provided to the growing golf program has allowed the school to create a pipeline beginning in middle school. Students in middle school can learn to play golf through the First Tee program and continue to grow until they are ready to play on the high school’s golf team. The team also has experienced and talented coaches, including some that are PGA professionals.

Recognition

The Drew Charter School golf team was invited to attend the presentation of the Calvin Peete Award on Oct. 13, 2019. Calvin Peete was the most successful African American golfer to compete on the PGA tour before Tiger Woods. The award was given to Harold Varner III this year. While he was unable to attend, he left a video message for the Drew Charter golf team letting them know that they had caught his attention. Because of their success and talent, Varner announced that the HV3 Foundation, which Varner created in 2018 to make sports participation more affordable for children, was donating $5,000 to the Drew Charter School’s golf program. The athletes and the coaches were surprised and honored to receive the award. Instead of putting the money to immediate use, Drew Charter School plans to use it as a building block towards the eventual creation of the school’s own golf facility.

Value of golf

The accomplishments of the Drew Charter School high school golf team should make everyone proud. These young athletes have demonstrated that golf is a great sport and that kids can learn important life lessons when they learn the game of golf. Golf teaches kids how to follow the rules of etiquette when they interact with others. It also helps students to learn discipline and social skills that can help them throughout their lives.

If you want your child to learn golf, Aussie Kids has many golf programs for kids in the Atlanta metro area, including summer and winter golf camps, private golf lessons, group golf lessons, and others. How to Teach Kids to Play Golf

How to teach your kids to play golfJunior Golf has become increasingly popular over the last few decades. There are many opportunities for young golfers to play both competitively and recreationally. If you are wanting to learn how to teach your kids to play golf, here is some information to help you.

Emphasize fun above everything else

How you approach golf with your child is important. You should make certain that you emphasize fun instead of pressuring your child too much. Remind yourself and your child that golf is a game. If your child does not love it as much as you do, recognize that is okay and have fun anyway.

Plan ahead

Before you head out to the golf course, spend some time teaching your child the rules of the game. Explain the rules and etiquette. This can make the experience better for you, your child, and others around you on the course. You can teach these things before your child ever picks up a ball and club.

Find the right instructor

Once your child understands the principles of the game of golf, you should look for the right instructor. Aussie Kids has four locations in the Atlanta metro area and offers individual lessons, group lessons, after-school golf programs, and golf summer camps. Choosing an instructor from Aussie Kids can make the process of how to teach kids to play golf much simpler and more enjoyable.

Get the correct equipment

Since your child’s stature is much smaller than adults, he or she will need a junior set. US Kids Golf is a good option when you are searching for good junior golf equipment. Getting good equipment is important to help your child develop the correct swing.

Playing at a course

Most golf courses are happy to accommodate young golfers. You should be aware that some courses specify certain times when young children are allowed to play. You might search for a course that offers family tees.

Buy golf clothes for your child

It is a good idea to buy proper golf attire for your child. You can find junior apparel lines from most golf apparel manufacturers. Children become more excited to learn golf when they can dress for the game.

Be realistic

You need to be realistic about your child’s ability to become a great golfer. Not every child have the athletic potential to become great at golf. Even if your child becomes a good golfer, there is no guarantee that he or she will ultimately receive a college golf scholarship. To improve your child’s chances, he or she should also strive to make excellent grades and to be well-rounded.

How to Play Golf With Your Kids

. When you approach playing golf in the right way with your children, it can be a highly rewarding experience for both of you. Here are some tips on how to play golf with your kids. Many parents want their children to learn to play golf because of its character-building and how it encourages sportsmanship and athleticism. When parents play golf with their children, they must do so in a way that makes the experience fun instead of overwhelming. When you approach playing golf in the right way with your children, it can be a highly rewarding experience for both of you. Here are some tips on how to play golf with your kids.

Choose your golf time wisely

When you want to learn how to play golf with your kids, the first tip is to choose the time to play wisely. You don’t want to golf with your child early in the morning or during the day. Instead, you should choose an evening tee time because children tend to cause the pace to slow dramatically. Golfing when there are fewer people at the golf course will help to avoid annoying other golfers.

Buy your children some golf-related items

Kids love receiving presents and become more excited about activities when they receive gifts. You can help your child to be more excited about golfing by purchasing small golf-related items to give them. Think about buying them golf balls and tees in bright colors.

Choose to use a golf cart

As an avid golfer, you might prefer to walk the golf course as a form of exercise. You might also prefer to walk because you believe that is how people should play the game. However, when children are involved, choosing to use a golf cart instead can make them more excited to play. Children love riding in golf carts and view it as a source of entertainment. Your child might look forward to playing through all of the holes when they can ride in a golf cart in between each one.

Change the yardage for your kids

Children simply can’t drive the golf ball as far as adults. To make it less frustrating for them, move their tee closer so they will become less frustrated. Make sure to encourage them and to remain positive even if they hit the ball in the wrong direction. A positive approach will keep your child happier and will make the experience an enjoyable one.

Take some time to teach your children golf etiquette

Playing golf with your children is a great time to teach them about golf etiquette. Explain how golfers take turns and respect the course. At the same time, refrain from being too hard on your children. Make learning the rules of golf and golf etiquette fun because they will be likelier to retain them and to enjoy playing golf.

Be patient

Golfing with a young child can be frustrating for anyone. However, you need to remember that children do not have the same emotional development or knowledge of adults. You should be patient with your child and show them how to do things without getting annoyed when they do not do them correctly.

Learn more with Aussie Kids

In addition to playing golf with your child, you might also want to consider a golf school or camp with Aussie Kids. Your children can learn how to play the game so they are ready for the challenge of the golf course. During the school year, we offer after-school golf programs as well as individual or group lessons. We have four locations in Atlanta in Buckhead, Alpharetta, John’s Creek, and Cross Creek. Golf Tournaments for Kids in Georgia 2019

golf tournaments in atlantaThere are still more than 30 kids golf tournaments in Georgia from August until the end of 2019! Getting hands-on experience in a golf tournament is one of the best ways to grow as a golfer, and it’s easy to learn more about upcoming golf tournaments for kids in your area and find out how to get ready with pro training.

Benefits of Tournament Experience for Kids

Getting lots of practice is all-important, but you’ll never know if your practice has paid off until you test your skills. Playing a quick round of golf here and there is certainly fun, and it’s also important to consider the potential benefits of providing your child with experience in a truly competitive arena.

In a golf tournament, kids from all over the area compete to see who’s the best. While there’s only one winner, every participant in a kids golf tournament benefits from the experience of vying for that number-one spot. Participating in a tournament can provide your child with a much more comprehensive understanding of his or her skills than a casual game could provide, and if your child ends up the winner, that self-esteem boost can easily be enough to spur a rewarding career.

How to Get Your Golfer Tournament-Ready

If you want to give your kid the best possible chance of getting the gold, then you’ll need to spend plenty of time preparing. It’s always best to get help from professionals when you’re getting ready to do something hard, and for kids getting ready for golf tournaments, assistance from experienced advisors is all-important.

Here at Aussie Kids, we offer one-on-one coaching with the most experienced professionals in the industry. Our comprehensive coaching and training programs provide your child with the hands-on experience needed to face a real-world tournament head-on, and we also provide a variety of other services that will give your kid a pro’s grasp of the game.

From state-of-the-art indoor facilities to weekly trips to local golf courses, Aussie Kids provides everything your little one needs to face the trials than an upcoming tournament will offer. In addition to handing down time-honored golf skills, learning how to golf from the professionals also provides children with the self-confidence they need to persist and succeed whether they place first or last in the tournament.

Golf Tournaments for Kids: The Bottom Line

While participating in a golf tournament is a great way for your child to test his or her skills, going into a tournament unprepared will only bring disappointment. When it comes to tournaments, enjoying the experience matters much more than winning, and without professional training, your child will be less equipped to have a good time or bring home the gold. Count on Aussie Kids to give your child everything necessary for tournament success.

How to Recognize Your Kid’s Golf Potential

recognize talent in kids aussie kids golf atlantaWhile it’s easy to tell if a kid has the potential to be a pro in other sports, it’s harder for parents to recognize and foster golf talent in children. Learn the best ways to find out if your child has the potential to succeed and how to support your young golfer’s endeavors to the fullest.

Offer Encouragement

The first step to finding out whether your kid has golfing potential is providing encouragement. If you don’t encourage your child to go all-out in trying golf, you’ll never get the chances you need to observe your young golfer’s in-game potential. Plus, encouragement is the top motivator for kids; if you show your child that you’re there to support his or her golfing ambitions, your kid will view golfing more positively and truly get involved in the game.

Provide Access to Golfing Opportunities

If you don’t make it easy for your kid to golf, you’ll never be able to see your child’s hidden potential. Ensure that you provide your child with regular opportunities to visit local golf courses and driving ranges, and make sure to express that providing opportunities for golfing is important to you. Even better, give your child the chance to experience one-on-one golf coaching. In some cases, only a professional will be able to foster your child’s latent talent to the fullest.

Lay off the Pressure

Providing encouragement is great, but pressuring your child to succeed in golf will be counterproductive. Remember that golfing is your child’s choice, not yours. It won’t reflect poorly on you if your child doesn’t have any golfing talent, and it isn’t your accomplishment if your child succeeds. Once you remove your personal feelings from the equation, it’s much easier to treat your child fairly and help your kid’s golfing talent grow.

Remember That Golfers Grow at Different Rates

When kids are small, their size determines their golfing talent. A ten-year-old is almost guaranteed to be a better golfer than a five-year-old based on physical size alone. Remember that if your kid can’t hit the ball very far, physical size could have a lot to do with it. In many cases, it takes multiple years of observation to recognize golfing talent as your child grows. Be patient, and remember that every aspiring young golfer grows at different rates, and your child may be either ahead of or behind the pack.

Evaluate Interest

Remember that you can communicate with your young golfer to determine your kid’s interest in golf directly. You can observe your child to find the answers to the following questions, but it also doesn’t hurt to sit your kid down and have an honest discussion about golf:

Does your child ask to go to the course?
Does your child show an interest in golf clubs and how they work?
Does your child practice away from the course?
Does your child have a good attitude with coaches?
Does your child talk about golf off the course?

Offer the Option of Competing in Tournaments

You should never force your child to compete in a golf tournament. However, these regional youth tournaments can be great opportunities for children to realize their full golfing potential. Pitted against other kids their age, young golfers have to give their all to shine in the spotlight.

Success in regional tournaments is tantamount to proof that your kid has what it takes to achieve great things in the golfing world. Remember, however, to gauge the talent of the kids your child competed against to get an accurate read of your young golfer’s skills.

Provide Your Child with Aussie Kids Professional Coaching

It’s understandable if it’s hard to find the time you need to evaluate and foster your kid’s golf dreams to the fullest. It might make sense to provide your child with the gift of a golf camp or private lessons to allow professionals to encourage your child’s latent talent on the course.

Here at Aussie Kids, we offer a variety of summer camps and after-school packages that provide your child with the coaching he or she needs to attain long-term golfing success. Our high-end indoor facilities beat the Atlanta-area heat, and we also provide your child with opportunities to golf at some of Atlanta’s finest golf courses. What is the best age to start golf lessons for kids?

Tiger Woods was a golf prodigy who could assume a great stance and swing a club effectively at 3 years of age. Woods went on to break numerous barriers in his career and entered his first PGA tournament by age 18. [1] However, some kids haven’t reached the level of maturity to manage dangerous equipment until they’re much older. Some children take years to develop a good stance. Determining what age to start golf lessons depends on each child. In extraordinary cases, your child can begin at 2 or 3 years of age. Others shouldn’t begin until they reach school age. Kids who have no interest in the sport shouldn’t be forced, but they can be encouraged by example.

Your child’s interest in golf is the best barometer. Today, kids can develop an interest in playing golf by playing video games. Parents can begin informal lessons by showing their children how to stand, grip the club and swing. Ideally, keep the lessons short and fun. What age to start golf lessons? Children who express a real interest in the sport are candidates for lessons regardless of their age. [2]

Deciding when or if to give your kids golf lessons depends on their interests and ability to grasp the concepts and manage golf clubs. When you decide to begin lessons, rest assured that the sport of golf offers some outstanding benefits for children.

The benefits of golfing for kids

More children are definitely developing a taste for the game. Kids can expand their golf interests on social media, develop lifelong friendships and learn about personal responsibility. Other signature benefits of starting golf lessons at a young age include: [3]

  • Kids can enjoy a safe and beautiful environment for play.
  • Exercise that fosters wellness for life is a benefit of golf.
  • Golf teaches kids to improve their abilities constantly.
  • Spending time outdoors offers many health benefits.
  • Golfers learn to control their emotions.
  • Golf results in fewer injuries and risks than other sports.

Junior golfers under the age of 18 in Australia now account for 3.5 percent of total golfers across the country. Boys make up 4 percent, and girls comprise 2.3 percent. It’s estimated that there are 1.1 to 1.2 million golfers in Australia. [4] Fostering an interest in golf at an early age is important for the sport.

What age to start golf lessons depends on your venue

Once you’ve determined what age to start golf lessons, you just need to find an appropriate venue. It’s always best to start lessons with an impartial organisation to give your kids a diverse outlook and an age-appropriate social setting. Environment is critical in fostering a love of golf and a safe space for learning and development.

Aussie Kids Golf Academy is an ideal environment for golf lessons where your child can develop based on his or her skill level. Aussie Kids offers programs for beginners or junior golfers who want to move to a higher skill level in a beautiful and safe environment.
